JRH Mourns the loss of founding board member Phil Klein
02/01/2010
It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss, on January 28, 2010 of our dear friend and major supporter, Philip E. Klein. As a founding board member and 2008 honoree, Phil made his support of and dedication to our work one of his major priorities. We will miss him terribly. He “walked the walk” each and every day and believed that a life well lived included saving others – some who we get to meet and some who we will never know….

13 is our lucky number!
More than 400 people turned out for the Jewish Recovery Houses' Nov. 7 "Funmitzvah" celebrating our 13th year.
Nationally-acclaimed comedian/entertainer extraordinaire Sarge brought down the house with side-splitting laughs while the band Spiral had the audience dancing in the aisles.

Special thanks to all who helped to put the fun in this mitzvah and helping to support the Jewish Recovery Houses.
Jewish Recovery Houses To Hold April 19 Event Featuring Local Holocaust Survivors
04/19/2009
Survival stories abound, but none touch our hearts and inform our souls in the same way as those who have lived to tell about the Holocaust.
Nearly 65 years after the end of World War II, these courageous men and women continue to inspire the world with their stories of reclaiming their lives in the face of adversity.
On Sunday, April 19, the Jewish Recovery Houses in partnership with the Holocaust Education Program of the Embassy of the Czech Republic and the Nicholas Winton Project will sponsor “From Survival to Recovery: An Afternoon of Inspiration from Holocaust Heroes.”
The event will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. at Moses Montefiore Anshe Emunah Hebrew Congregation, 7000 Rockland Hills Drive, in Baltimore (www.synagoguecenter.org.)
Prominent Holocaust survivors Edwarda Sternberg-Powidzki and Bluma Shapiro, both of Baltimore, will speak. A presentation about the life and mission of humanitarian Sir Nicholas Winton, known as the “British Oscar Schindler,” will also be presented.

First annual Hanukkah Party
12/25/2009
The first annual Hanukkah party hosted by Jewish Recovery Houses was a tremendous success. We didn’t know what the response would be-this year since the 5th nite of Hanukkah coincided with Christmas day. Our guests were treating to a wonderful celebration of Hanukkah and learned a bit about recovery from our two guest speakers, Harriet Mandel Olsen and Jeff Millman, who shared their experience, strength and hope with us. Local businesses, board members and volunteers contributed generously to provide our guests with a most pleasurable afternoon. Jason Ott and Lisa Dorman were the lucky raffle winners. Prizes included lunch for two at Ethel and Ramones (the gumbo there is authentic and to die for) and a gift certificate for Suburban House Restaurant-longtime supporters of JRH. We ate donuts, drank coffee and apple juice and listened as the Rockin’ Rabbi,-Avaham Rosen entertained us with guitar and sang with Jan Seiden, who accompanied him on the flute. Jan shared information with us about Native American flute. We thank them for donating their time and talents. We also want to thank the community for their support and generous donations, Ed and Jeff from Ethel and Ramones, Joe and Marc from Suburban House, Brenda Burgan and her staff at Moses Montefiore who graciously allowed us to use their beautiful new sanctuary, Giant Foods, Jeff Forman, the Millman and Dorman families, and countless other volunteers who helped make this event a success. We were able to raise money to put towards a new washing machine for the men’s house-House of Hope. JRH is supported entirely through donations from private citizens and foundations.
Pictures From The Craig Ferguson Event

On November 8, 2008, Craig Ferguson, host of CBS's Late Late Show, provided over 500 guests to an hour of fun with a stand-up routine showcasing his dry Scottish humor. The event raised valuable funds for the houses. Thanks to everyone who attended, volunteered and sponsored the event. A special congratulations goes to Phil Klein and Neil Meltzer, who were honored for their efforts on behalf of Jewish Recovery Houses.

The Masonic Lodge chooses Jewish Recovery Houses
11/01/2008
The Masonic Lodge selects organizations and individuals to assist financially through their Worthy Charities program. This year, Jewish Recovery Houses is among those selected to receive this award. Martha Meehan will represent JRH at a banquet held in the Ballroom of the Scottish Rite Temple on November 11, 2008.
The purpose of this program and evening is twofold; first, to directly support the efforts of those in the community working for the betterment of all; and second, to recognize the joy in such efforts, sharing a moment of heartfelt gratitude among those laboring for similar ends.
The Board of Directors, the staff and, most importantly, the residents of Jewish Recovery Houses are most appreciative of this honor and award and are grateful for the support of the Masonic Lodge.
